Hi John,
Just had my first clutch hatch in the SIM. Three Bamboo Ratsnakes (O.P. Laticinctus). Hatched in 56 days, as easy as it gets. I didn't measure a thing, filled the bottom with Vermiculite and just flat out soaked it with water. Basically the vermiculite was there to keep the water from sloshing if I moved the SIM. Great containers. Still not sure how I'd do if I didn't catch the clutch in time to separate the clump, but these worked great.

John A Posted: 2010-07-25 | Hi John & Gregg ! My first Hog pipped today in a Sim. Was having problems with temps, had to move them to 3 different rooms 3 times. Just like the three bear's , too hot , too cold, the kitchen was just right !! Most of the time they were at 78 to 81 f . They were laid on 5/25/10 today is 7/18/10 so 54 days to first pip. Not bad guys !! The forum on your site keeps jamming up on me for hours , just frozen. If it worked, I might have found out what I was doing wrong , with drilling holes, or vermiculate, and the amount of water. But the SIM still got the job done, even with see through eggs, and yellow eggs with no veins, that after 8 days got veins and are still good. Here are some pics of the first pip ! John
Thought you might like an update.
The Coastal Plains Milk Snake eggs are hatching (57 days). The S.I.M. container did not speed up the hatching time. Fifty-five to sixty days is typical for Lampropeltis species of milk snakes. There is one additional issue that could be a problem with the S.I.M. container. These babies are very small and luckily were able to cleanly pass through the grate to the substrate below. Babies slightly larger would probably get stuck and possible die. Perhaps a S.I.M. container with much smaller grate openings i.e. a container specifically designed for small milk snakes might be in order. Half the babies are out the shell so far and several still thinking about it. Some of them have quite the attitude. See the attached photos.
Photo #6 is of the eggs when first put into the incubator. If you recall the S.I.M. container did not work very well initially (could not get the humidity high enough at first) but with a few modifications (discussed in previous e-mails) it worked very well. Photo #20 is of the eggs hatching. The rest of the photos are of the babies that hatched so far.
Hope you found my comments the past few months useful.

John A Posted: 2010-06-25 | Our customer Eve writes: "Hi John, We had spoke awhile back when I purchased your container. I have used it along with my normal method as I have had alot of eggs this season so far. I just wanted you to know I tried different species in the container with good results. " Some" Collared eggs sometimes began to dent in when placed in there and I did pull some out and put into substrate to incubate and they hatched in the reg way. I will have to mess with the humidity in there some I think. ( How wet I make the vermiculite under the shelf). But I put other collared eggs in that did hatch nicely :0) So I just observe and go from there. I had 9 clown agama crossed with black agama eggs in there and 6 just hatched and 3 to go. All look good. I also have hatched.... and am hatching more snow leopard gecko eggs. I have about 8 more collared eggs as well that are doing awesome. So all in all everything I had in there has hatched, or is hatching. I am pleased :0) I have enclosed a few pics for you. Take care, Eve"
